Why HASS?
Today's social trend is toward awareness that while material things are important they are not enough for a full life. For this, students may turn to art, music, theatre, literature, communication, history, and the study of human behavior.
Departments provide preparation for some of these most interesting and vital fields. Students may train for relevant careers; even more (scientists and engineers for example) may take courses simply to broaden their horizons and add interest to their lives. It is within the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences that these needs are all met.
What could be more important in a time of globalization and profound technological change than to understand at a fundamental level the underlying forces of that change? The humanities, arts, and social sciences are the proving ground for critical thinking and critical inquiry.
